Social Media Communcation

Social Media Communcation

Beginning July 1, 2026, Kansas House Bill 2299 requires school districts to limit social media communication with students to one-way communication only. This same legislation also established Kansas’ new student cell phone requirements.

As a result of this change, district and school social media accounts will no longer respond to direct messages or participate in comment-based conversations. The law prohibits district employees from engaging with students through social media, and because it is not always possible to determine whether an account belongs to a current student, we must make this adjustment to ensure we are following the new requirements.

Our social media pages will continue to be a place where we share important district and school updates, celebrate student and staff accomplishments, and highlight the great things happening throughout Emporia Public Schools.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your student’s school by ParentSquare or the district office using the phone numbers or email addresses listed on our district website.

Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we work to meet these new state requirements.
